Application Process

The Inwood Fire Department welcomes your application for membership.  Before applying, please carefully review the information found on this website to learn about the many benefits of volunteering, as well as the substantial time commitments required of each of our dedicated members.recruit-picture

Ready to take the first step? Great! Initial communication with applicants may be made by email.  To ensure that your application is processed at the earliest possible date, it is important that you regularly monitor your email and promptly respond to IFD inquiries.

After your inquiry is submitted, applicants will be scheduled to to attend an informational session offered at our headquarters located at 188 Doughty Boulevard, Inwood, NY.  During this meeting, you will have further opportunity to ask questions about volunteering and, if you meet minimal requirements and wish to proceed, you will be furnished with an official Department application.

Application for membership must be submitted on an approved application form furnished by the Inwood Fire Department accompanied by a fifteen dollar application fee.  The application shall be referred to a membership committee whose duty it is to evaluate the applicant and conduct a background check.  The applicant must also pass a medical evaluation.
